The Sharks are into the final of the Absa Currie Cup thanks to a marvelous 29-14 victory over a brave but outplayed Lions side at The Absa Stadium Durban on this afternoon.
They will meet the winner of the still to be played (at the time of writing) semi-final between the Blue Bulls and Free State Cheetahs, but for Coach John Plumtree, this is not only relief that his charges have done the business, but reward for the outstanding preparations and season efforts over the last four months as they look ahead to the final to be played in Durban in two weeks’ time.
With only a one-point margin necessary to win the game, no bonus points or four tries required in this knock-out match, it was always expected to be a tight game. Certainly it was tightly-contested, but who would have believed the Sharks would go into an emphatic 26-7 lead at half-time?
It was a lead that was reward for an outstanding attacking first half and a few moments of individual brilliance from attacking players who can be relied upon to create something special in a match.
Both teams had elected to use the air a lot but it was the Lions who would find the Sharks’ superior skills providing them with the advantage and impetus to take a commanding lead in the first half of the game.
Now the long wait for the final on the 25th, come on guys I know you can do it!
