Rugby: Sharks vs Lions Semi-Final Currie Cup

The Sharks take on the Xerox Lions in a repeat of last year’s Absa Currie Cup semi-final determined that at full-strength this year, they have the manpower, but more importantly, a commitment to the cause, a team-driven goal, to emerge victorious.

A year ago, the Lions arrived in Durban for the semi-final and came away with a win against a team that was missing its Rugby World Cup Springboks and which had seven internationals in the match 22. Tomorrow’s team boasts 16.

This is a Sharks’ side not only filled with Internationals, but it is their depth that has been one of their major weapons in their arsenal, the ability to replace like with like and suffer no ill-effects of making changes.

As we look back on recent history, the past 10 outings between these two sides in the Absa Currie Cup in Durban have the Sharks ahead with seven wins and the Lions on three with both having won a semi-final.

The visitors will look back to last year’s semi-final at The Absa Stadium Durban which they won 19-12 to motivate them, while the Sharks know they have had the Lions’ number this year, having played them three times (including the Vodacom Super 14) and having won all three.
